Westchase Artists Celebrate New
Members and New Activities
By Teresa Trubilla, Westchase Artist Society member
The March meeting of the Westchase Artists Society
was held at its new meeting time and location – 7 p.m.
on the fourth Tuesday of the month at the Westchase Swim
and Tennis Center on Countryway Boulevard. The
neighborhood meeting room will provide more space and an
opportunity to make use of audio-visual equipment for
upcoming presentations.
After calling the meeting to order, President Jeremy
Ramos got things underway as members briefly introduced
themselves. In attendance were two artists interested in
becoming members of the Westchase Artists Society. Judy
B. Freeman, who has worked in clay for over 30 years,
shared some pictures of her “funky yet functional”
pieces that feature whimsical cats, butterflies and
fish. Frida Vazquez brought several of her large oil
paintings to share with the group. Her work featured
colors and subjects from her native Bolivia.
With introductions complete, the discussion moved onto a
brief review of the opening reception for the
“Expressions of Westchase” exhibit at the Upper Tampa
Bay Library. Members expressed their pleasure with the
turnout as well as their gratitude for the community
support they received.
The discussion of business
continued with information about several possible
upcoming shows and events. A request was made for a
workshop on capturing images of one’s artwork and saving
them to digital files. Vanessa Montenegro suggested the

tutorials for anyone with questions on Photoshop.
Creating an online gallery of members’ work was also
discussed as a possible project.
The next meeting of the Westchase Artists Society will be
held on Tuesday, May 27, at 7 p.m. at the Westchase Swim and
Tennis Center. The guest speaker for the evening will be
Westchase artist and sculptor Joseph Rotella, who works in
stone, bronze, and cast resin. His presentation will be followed
by a brief question and answer session. At this meeting,
nominations will also be taken for the upcoming June election of
a new board of directors to replace the temporary one that was
installed in January. Members were asked to consider running for
office or volunteering for one of the roles of committee
chairperson.
The Westchase Artists Society is open to all types of visual
artists and art lovers from the Upper Tampa Bay area. Anyone
interested in finding out more about the group is invited to
drop in at our next meeting. Meetings are held at 7 p.m. on the
fourth Tuesday of every month at the Westchase Swim and Tennis
Center. We hope to see you there!
