Second Annual Westchase NCAA Basketball
Pool Tournament Begins

Put
your hoops prognostication skills to the test and participate in the
second annual Westchase NCAA Men's Basketball Pool Tournament. Be a
“playah” by registering at
www.nwtampa.com/hoops/
and fill out an online bracket.
I, The Commish, put together this Web site just for Westchase homeowners
who, like me, can't get enough of college hoops. Not only will the
Westchase NCAA Men's Basketball Pool Tournament site showcase the
college basketball teams playing their way to the finals, but it will
give you a chance to show off your hoops knowledge and perhaps pick up a
free pizza dinner for two along the way.
Keep up with the 2008 Men's college basketball tournament as the field
of 64 teams in the National Collegiate Athletic Association brackets is
narrowed down to sixteen (Thursday, March 27), eight (Saturday, March
29) and then four (Saturday, April 5). Seeds are announced on Selection
Sunday – March 16, 2008. CBS will televise the men's selection show at 5
p.m., and I will post an online entry form immediately after the
selections are announced. All entries will be stored online; however,
you won't be able to view any other pool player's bracket until the
first round of games is underway. Only two brackets per player, please.
The opening round in the Men's Division I tournament begins on March 20,
but don't forget the play-in game, which will be played on March 18 at 7
p.m. The action continues until the championship game is played on
Monday, April 7.
It doesn’t look like the University of Florida has any chance at three-peating
as the 2008 champion. So will it be Memphis or Illinois, Kansas or Duke,
or another top ranked team? The competition is tough. Once the games are
underway, you can revisit the Westchase NCAA Men's Basketball Pool
Tournament site to get up-to-the-minute pool standings and alerts to
games in progress, upsets in the making, and commentary from yours truly
on how the tournament's unfolding. You can also run a little smack with
other Westchase pool players via an interactive message board.
Like last year’s contest, it's free to join the second annual Westchase
NCAA Men's Basketball Pool Tournament. The top three finishers in the
pool will be eligible to win great prizes donated by local businesses in
and around Westchase. Most importantly, the winner will receive a
stylish certificate worthy of framing, and of course, bragging rights
for an entire year. Marc Fisher was last year’s winner with an
impressive 84 percent of correct picks.
Since you won’t be able to fill out an online bracket until Selection
Sunday, March 16, drop what you’re doing now and e-mail me at
hoops@nwtampa.com with your name and I’ll send you an e-mail
reminder once the bracket is live for you to make your picks!
And to encourage more Westchase women to participate, I quote “The Good
Wife's Guide” from the May 13, 1955 edition of Housekeeping Monthly. It
suggests you might be better off having dinner ready for your man
instead. “Plan ahead, even the night before, to have a delicious meal
ready, on time for his return. This is a way of letting him know that
you have been thinking about him and are concerned about his needs.”
Well, ladies, The Commish has your needs in mind, so I offer this
challenge: whichever women enter and beat me by 10 percentage points or
more, I’ll cook dinner for.
I trust I will be dining alone.
