Green Tip: Get with the Recycling Program!
By Marcy Greenberg, Resident of Saville Rowe

If you want to turn over a new, greener leaf and would like to start recycling, call Waste Management at 621-3055 to request the proper bins. Some residents currently don’t recycle because they see the recyclables thrown together into Waste Management’s truck. This causes some to conclude it is all just taken to the landfill. This, however, is wildly inaccurate. Waste Management uses a large separating machine that effectively sorts materials when they reach the recycling center. If you don’t recycle, the only one unnecessarily throwing them in the landfill is you!

Recycling is only collected on Mondays in Westchase. Items you can recycle are:

Plastic containers with the number 1 or 2 in the triangle on the bottom
Any color glass bottles and jars
Steel, tin and aluminum cans

Please remove the lids and rinse the containers before placing them in the bin. The other bin is for paper and cardboard. Recyclable items for that bin include:

Newspaper and newspaper inserts (remove the plastic bag)
Magazines, catalogs and telephone books
Corrugated cardboard shipping boxes
Brown paper bags
Mixed office paper
Junk mail

Be sure to flatten and cut corrugated boxes into 3’ x 3’ sections or less.

Every homeowner should be receiving the Recycling Planet Newsletter. If you are not and would like to request copies, call 276-2924.
