TriGals Escape from Fort De Soto
By Brenda Bennett, President of the TriGals

On Saturday, April 12, 13 members of the Westchase TriGals and four TriGal hubbies competed in the 2008 Escape from Fort De Soto Triathlon. The triathlon involved a half-mile swim, a 10-mile bike ride and a four-mile run. While the run portion included running up and down the stairs of the old fort and running through beach sand, most TriGals found the swim to be the most challenging part of the triathlon. Last month, the group was trying on and purchasing wet suits because the race did end up being wet suit legal. Some of the TriGals have also been practicing with open water swim training events, which helped get them prepared.

Congratulations to all 13 of our TriGals who raced:

Jodi Walker
Jamye Specht
Shawni Ely
Gwenn Silverstein
Gail Frank
Mary Lord
Brenda Bennett
Marcie Mathews
Michelle Bonfe
Michele Weinstock
Vanessa Montenegro
Rosa Laura Sagesse El Booz
Lori Wordon

Gwenn Silverstein, Gail Frank and Mary Lord completed a relay of the TriGal Turtles.

On Saturday, April 26, some of the TriGal kids will compete in the St. Anthony’s Meek and Mighty children’s triathlon and on Sunday, April 27, a group of TriGals will compete in the St. Anthony’s Triathlon, which consists of a 1.5K swim, 40K bike ride and 10K run. The race starts at 7 a.m. at the St. Petersburg Pier, so come cheer them on.
