New School Year, New...Everything!

With a new school year come new teachers, new classrooms, tons of new faces, and maybe even a new school.

After three months of summer, we couldn't help but feel a little lost walking into familiar halls. For those of us going onto middle school, it's even worse. But there's no reason to be nervous. With a good attitude and a huge bag of school supplies, you’re good to go!

At the beginning of a new year kids are usually most nervous about not knowing anyone in their classes. Usually, however, you have at least one friend there, but if that's not the case, keep an open mind. You might also want to join a group or club at school where you can meet kids with common interests. Also, don't be shy. If you see a group of kids playing kickball, ask if you can join them. You'll have fun and you may just go back inside with a new friend. You may feel alone the first few days but you'll feel better in no time.

Another thing that I'm always worried about is my new teachers. You'll often hear kids say, “She gives a ton of homework” or “He never gives tests.” Don't judge your teacher based on these rumors. It's better to find out for yourself. If you get a really strict teacher, just remember to pay attention in class. If you don't cause any trouble, your teacher likely won’t get upset. If you’re going to middle school it’s also important to keep track of all of your things because the older you get, the tougher the teachers get. You won't be able to go back to your locker to get a pencil.

Now that school has started, it’s important to keep a few of these things in mind. It all may seem overwhelming at first, but it’s important to be positive. A new school year is a great opportunity to make new friends, learn new things and set new goals. Some of these things may seem completely different. After a while, however, you'll get used to everything.

Just keep in mind, new everything may not be so bad.
