UTB Library to Expand in 2011

Efforts to win the expansion of the UTB Regional Library recently paid off – and the building should begin in 2011.

On Tuesday, July 20, members of Tampa-Hillsborough Library Planning Committee and Tampa-Hillsborough Library Budget Committee unanimously voted to recommend to the county’s library board to use one-time reserve money for the first three recommended projects on the board’s unfunded list. The Upper Tampa Bay Library’s expansion was third on the list.

On Thursday, July 22, the Tampa-Hillsborough Library Board approved that recommendation. The board also requested that the expansions be done as soon as possible.

We thank the library board and all committee members for their support for expanding the UTB Regional Library.

On Wednesday, July 28,  Hillsborough County Commissioner Ken Hagan made a motion to expand the Upper Tampa Bay Regional Library, and it was approved by all of the commissioners.  The process will begin in fiscal year 2011. We thank Commissioner Hagan for making the motion for the much needed expansion, and all the commissioners for unanimously approving the library project.

We also offer our special thanks to all of the Friends of UTB Members who wrote letters in support of the expansion. We look forward to the expansion of the UTB Library, and the much needed space
it will provide.

Please see below for all the great programs at your library in September. On Sept. 6 and 9 the library will be closed.
