2012 Marks 13th Straight Year for State Fair Ribbons
For the second year running, Wycliff’s Diane Scharringhausen wins Best in Show at the Florida State Fair.
In February Westchase’s championship quilt maker made it 13 straight years she has won a quilting ribbon at the fair. This year, her pieced category entry, Wild Cherry, took a first place blue ribbon in the appliqué category. Later competing against all first place winners of the 22 hand-quilted categories, Scharringhausen’s masterpiece took an additional ribbon for Best in Show. The win marked her fourth Best in Show purple ribbon at the fair.
“I’m just really happy. All that hard work and then I get a purple ribbon!” she said.
Scharringhausen also entered a second quilt, Very Purple Pinwheel, which placed third in the pieced category.
Scharringhausen began her hobby in 1987 as a way to pass time when her husband was stationed abroad during his military career. In 2000 she began entering her handiwork into the fair’s quilting competition and has won at least one ribbon every year since. She’s the proud owner of four purple ribbons for Best in Show, 12 blue ribbons, which represent first place in particular quilting categories, five second-place red ribbons and this year’s third place ribbon, for a total of 22.
Congratulations, Diane! See you at the 2013 Florida State Fair!
