Westchase GirlTalk Group Gets Creative!

The ladies of GirlTalk channeled their inner artists in May at Westchase’s own Painting with a Twist.

It was the perfect way for the members of the group to unwind, socialize and enjoy a few cocktails while creating their own personal masterpieces to take home. The painting for the evening was “Paris Moon” and everyone had a great time putting their own spin on their artwork.

The group will be taking a break over the busy summer months. Founder Lori Shaw is currently planning more exciting and informative meetings for the fall. First up will be the Fidelity Investments Seminar to be held at Shaw’s home on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 6:30 p.m. In this seminar attendees will learn the importance of getting organized, including budgeting, saving and managing debt; key financial principles and planning for short-term and long-term goals; and investment options to help determine their appropriate asset allocations.

It has been an exciting year for the Westchase GirlTalk group, which continues to grow with each meeting. GirlTalk Group Takes Time to Give Back

The GirlTalk group’s November meeting proved a family affair.

On Nov. 20 members teamed up with their children and spent the afternoon donating their time to Feeding America Tampa Bay, whose primary mission is to end hunger and nourish hope across the ten counties it serves. According to GirlTalk founder, Lori Shaw, GirlTalk volunteers inspected and assorted close to 5,000 pounds of perishable and non-perishable food donations, which equaled nearly 4,000 meals for families around Tampa Bay. It was a rewarding experience for all.

Now the group is gearing up for its Third Annual Holiday Party, which will take place on Friday, Dec. 19, at Shaw’s house in West Park Village. It will be an evening filled with food and drink and activities that will get everyone in the holiday spirit. The event is always the highlight of the year and the perfect opportunity to catch up with friends old and new.

GirlTalk Group Gets Shutter Happy

In May the ladies of GirlTalk received a crash course in photography, compliments of Jen Bravo.

The owner of Jen Bravo Photography, Bravo specializes in capturing family memories and turning them into cherished works of art. She shared her tricks of the trade with the group. More important, she encouraged the ladies of GirlTalk to have fun with their photography and focus on capturing the simple moments – a baby’s first pair of shoes or an unprompted moment of affection between siblings. To challenge the group to put her lessons into action, Bravo is hosting a photography contest for the members who were in attendance. The GirlTalk member who produces the most enticing photo will win a family photo session.

The group will face a challenge of a different nature when they head to Pure Barre on Friday, June 13, at 6:30 p.m. Pure Barre, located in Westchase, is the total body workout that is sweeping the nation and being touted as the fastest, most effective way to change your body. As a reward for their hard work, the group will head next door to Stone Chase for a few after-workout beverages.

GirlTalk Group Gets a Lesson in Olive Oil

April’s GirlTalk meeting took place at The Olive Tree in downtown Westchase.

Proprietor Donna Woelfel welcomed the group into her store and shared with them her mission to change the way people consume virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Woelfel went into detail about the process that goes into creating the freshest olive oil and balsamic vinegar and why the olive oil on the grocery store shelves isn’t always what it’s cracked up to be.

Woelfel introduced the ladies to the wide range of flavors available at the store – from Persian Lime Infused Olive Oil to Pomegranate Quince Balsamic Vinegar. She also shared a few of her secrets. For instance, to enhance a box of brownie mix, simply substitute traditional oil with Blood Orange Infused Olive Oil for a zesty kick. And who would have thought to skip the chocolate syrup and instead drizzle Dark Chocolate Balsamic Vinegar over vanilla ice cream? One sample of that concoction and you’ll never look at balsamic vinegar the same way again!

The group then spent the evening sampling the oils and vinegars to their hearts’ content. It was a wonderful evening of food, fun and growing friendships.

On May 14 GirlTalk will head to the studio of Jen Bravo, owner of Jen Bravo Photography. Bravo will share the tips of her trade with the ladies of GirlTalk and have them shooting like the pros.

The monthly GirlTalk meetings continue to grow in attendance – a fact that thrills the group’s founder, Lori Shaw. Shaw loves seeing new faces at the meetings, and is also thankful to the area businesses that have reached out and offered their services to the group.

GirlTalk Group Gears up for Spring Meetings

GirlTalk’s initial meetings of 2014 have been a huge success and they are preparing for more exciting events this spring.

The group’s March meeting featured a seminar presented by Dr. Dixon of Symmetry Chiropractic & Wellness and entitled, “How to Stay Young for the First 100 Years.”  During the seminar, the group learned that spinal disorder is the most common cause of functional disability. The average life span is increasing and Dr. Dixon offered advice on how to avoid and prevent spinal disorder to help maintain mobility in life’s later years. Dr. Dixon has given presentations to corporations such as AT&T, SunTrust Bank and the Lions Club. The GirlTalk group appreciates the time he took to speak with them.

The group’s next meeting will be held on April 9 at The Olive Tree in West Park Village Town Center. The ladies will have the chance to sample a variety of oils the store has on hand while also learning tips regarding the health and beauty benefits of various oils.

On May 14 Jen Bravo, owner of Jen Bravo Photography, will share the tips of her trade with the ladies of GirlTalk. Westchase’s GirlTalk Group Continues to Grow

While GirlTalk’s January meeting was all about finding inner peace through meditation, February found the ladies switching the focus to outer beauty.

The group was treated to a fabulous night of complimentary hair and make-up consultations hosted by The Salon & Spa at Mystic Hair. Topics included finding the right cut and color for your face shape, choosing the right skincare for your skin type and carrying your day look over into evening. GirlTalk members Kristina Brendzel, Marilyn McKinley and Candace Eitler were even treated to makeovers while the stylists shared tips with the group on how to recreate the looks at home.

“I learned some great tips at this night of beauty. Thanks so much to Mystic Spa for a fun experience!” said Eitler.

The meeting will take place at founder Lori Shaw’s home at 6:30 p.m. On April 9 the ladies will get a chance to indulge their taste buds at a tasting event at The Olive Tree in downtown Westchase.

GirlTalk attendance continues to grow as word of their exciting events spreads. But as Brendzel points out, it is about much more than the outings themselves. “I have met some really nice and wonderful women through the group. The activities we do monthly are interesting, fun and a great way to spend a few hours. Lori Shaw has terrific ideas, a big heart and endless energy,” Brendzel said.
