Reclaimed Water Service Interrupted in Westchase
If you’re wondering if your reclaimed water system is broken, don’t fret. Reclaimed water service to approximately 600-700 Westchase homes has been interrupted. The outage is due to repairs to the reclaimed water main on Linebaugh Avenue across from Westchase Elementary School. According to staff with the Community Development District (CDD) reclaimed water service was spotty during last week and finally went off on Tuesday, Jan. 31.
Addressing the outage, Michelle Van Dyke, Community Relations Coordinator for Hillsborough County’s Water Resources Division, stated “We’re expecting it to be back in service in a couple of hours.”
Van Dyke explained that a split had caused a leak in a reclaimed water pipeline. “The repair,” she stated, “turned out to be more complex than originally thought.”
A repair joint had to be specially ordered for the job. “Service should be restored by this afternoon,” she predicted on Friday, Feb. 3.
Van Dyke added that the outage offered an opportunity to remind residents that when they turn on their reclaimed water systems and discover they are not operating, they shouldn’t immediately call a repair company. “It’s always good for customers to call us first before they call a repair company,” she said. Van Dyke stated that interruptions occasionally occur for maintenance.
The North Line Maintenance Unit, which is responsible for Westchase’s reclaimed water, can be reached at 554-5010.
