Run the Great West Chase!

You’ve likely considered it.

Perhaps you even made a mental promise that this year would be your year.

Now it’s time! The Great West Chase 5K/10K and Children’s Fun Run will kick off Saturday, Oct. 28. (And, if you've never run it before, it only takes 20-30 minutes three times per week over eight weeks to go from your sofa to the finish line!)

Why not make the 16th annual running of The Great West Chase 5K and 10K your first?

Did you know most beginner couch-to-5K programs run about eight weeks and only take about 20 or 30 minutes, three times a week?

You can do it!

The Great West Chase 5K/10K and Children’s Fun Run is a great, fall tradition in Westchase. By joining the fun, you’ll help WOW promote school success for underprivileged kids.

While not mandatory, we always welcome runners who participate in fun Halloween costumes.

Davis Elementary, a Title I elementary school on Old Memorial Highway, will be the recipient of this year’s race proceeds; Davis serves the Children’s Home and surrounding neighborhoods. Last year, thanks to the race’s enthusiastic runners and generous sponsors, $33,000 in race proceeds were given to Bellamy Elementary, another Title I school, to promote reading and math skills.

The 5K and 10K events are USATF/RRTC nationally certified, chip-timed races. Last year’s three races hosted over 1,200 runners, who enjoyed a great post-race party. The 10K run will start at 7 a.m., the 5K run kicks off at 8 a.m. and the children’s Fun Run begins at 9 a.m.

If you haven’t yet participated, make this year’s races your first. You’ll find a very supportive crowd! Each year we recognize runners who make The Great West Chase their first 5K or 10K.

After getting the OK from your doctor, check out the simple Coach to 5K program at or download the 5K training app at It re.quires just 20-30 minutes three times per week. You can start this week and celebrate Halloween by proudly participating in your first 5K!

You’ll have a blast – and get our great, Halloween-themed race T-shirt.

The races will be held in the heart of Westchase. Please visit for registration and all race information.

Business sponsors and volunteers are needed. If you would like to sponsor the race or volunteer, please contact Tracy Urso at for more information.

Join us on Saturday, Oct. 28, for a day of charitable outreach, exercise, food, entertainment and Halloween fun!
