Spare an Old Pair?

A young Westchaser wants to put your old eyeglasses to work again. In February eighth grader Stephanie Punzak will be going on a school missionary trip to the Dominican Republic. Said Punzak, “This trip is all about community service. During the time we are there, we will be constructing water filters for the people living in the Dominican Republic who go to the lake for their everyday water. This way, the water is clean and it is sanitary and safe for them to drink.”

That’s not all. Punzak is also hoping to provide eyeglasses to adults and children who need them. To this end, she’s reaching out to her neighbors for donations of their old eyeglasses.  She explained, “I need to collect glasses with a variety of different prescriptions to accommodate as many people as possible. If any of you have glasses sitting around your house, even just one pair, even if it’s old, I would appreciate that you would donate them to me so I can bring to the Dominican Republic to help those in need.”

Punzak stated that residents can leave their old eyeglasses on their porches and then e-mail her at punzaste@berkeleyprep.org to have them picked up. Greens residents can also leave them on Punzak’s front porch at 10568 Greensprings Dr.

The last day for the collection is Feb. 15.

“Even just one pair of glasses can make the biggest difference, so if you could please take the time to collect any eye glasses or sunglasses lying around your home and e-mail me that would be amazing!” Punzak stated.
