Lowry PTA Golf Tournament on May 17
By Merle Supple

Math at the Mall on March 15 was a huge success. Lowry sponsored a table and nearly 240 children came through. This event was sponsored by the Hillsborough County Elementary Mathematics Teachers in cooperation with Westfield Malls. We thank Lowry teachers Jodi Pelletier, Charlie Dittmar, Kim Henriquez, Lisa Coursey, Theresa Seits and Chair Sue Harmon for their support of this project.

On Saturday, April 12, 63 Lowry students participated in the annual Hillsborough County Storytelling Festival, the second highest number in Hillsborough County. On April 17-18 the storytelling fun continued at Lowry with the students traveling in troupes to recite their stories in various classrooms. Thank you to all of our fine students who did a great job! Lowry also thanks the following teachers for keeping the art of storytelling alive in our classrooms: Mrs. Segal, Mrs. Twadros, Mrs. Molinaro, Mrs. Henriquez, Mrs. Long, Mrs. Schwartz, Mrs. Fivecoat, Mrs. Lewis, Mrs. Sacarello, Mrs. Stovall, Mrs. Washington, Mrs. Billett, Mrs. Jasiulevicius, Mrs. Scott, Mrs. Fernandez, Mrs. Lee, Mrs. McGovern, Mrs. Zwolak, Mrs. Russek and Mrs. Wingo.

On April 25, Lowry held its annual Multicultural Night and Art Show. Hundreds of pieces of art – an excellent representation of what our children are learning in their classes – were displayed in the multipurpose room. The children did a fabulous job and everyone who attended had a great time. We thank our fabulous art teachers, Mary Hamrick and Peter Stilton, for their hard work and dedication.

We also thank our Lowry music teachers, Mrs. Lorri Naylor and Mrs. Jia Leikenson, for Lowry’s wonderful spring concert on April 30.

The patrols enjoyed their annual Patrol Picnic on April 18. We appreciate all their hard work helping to keep our school safe.

We would also like to thank Sweetbay on Sheldon Road for their continued support of our Citizen of the Month Program.

Our annual Lowry Elementary Golf outing is taking place on May 17. We are still in need of prizes and volunteers. If you are interested in helping, please contact Annicette Richardson at amr6970@msn.com.

Please keep your eyes open for upcoming PTA Board and Committee Chair positions and contact one of the PTA Board members if you are interested in next year’s PTA Board/Committees for the 2008/2009 school year.

On April 15 the PTA provided lunch for teachers and staff who celebrate birthdays between January and June. We thank Sweet Tomatoes on S. Dale Mabry Highway for their donations of salads.

We appreciate all of our teachers and staff at Lowry Elementary! We are looking forward to teacher and staff appreciation week in May. There will be a PTA appreciation breakfast on May 5, dessert day on May 7, and a luncheon on May 8. We are still in need of class
donations for this event. Please contact Jennifer Johnson at jennjohn71@gmail.com if you can help.

To commemorate National School Nurses Day on May 6, we thank Mrs. Donna Taylor, Lowry’s Registered Nurse, for all of her hard work and dedication.

National Administrator’s Assistant Day was celebrated on Wednesday, April 23. Lowry thanks office staff members Beverly Durkin, Julie Oost, ReeCee Paige, and Jones Daly for their hard work and dedication to our school, teachers, and students.
