Location
The race will be held in the heart of beautiful Westchase in Northwest Hillsborough County. Start and finish lines for the 5K race will be located in the Village Plaza in West Park Village. The race will proceed westward along Linebaugh Avenue before looping back along the same scenic route. The Children’s 1K Fun Run will begin in front of the Gables Clubhouse and will proceed around the West Park Village Plaza. The events will be held rain or shine.

Directions
From downtown Tampa (I 275) proceed north on Veterans Expressway to the Linebaugh exit. Proceed west on Linebaugh through the entrance to Westchase at the corner of Sheldon and Linebaugh. Entrances to West Park Village will exist one block east and west of Linebaugh’s intersection with Montague Street. Click here for directions.

Please note that Montague Street will be closed down by 6:30 a.m. on the morning of the race. Plentiful parking can be found on side roads accessed by Belgrave Road and Bentley Road, the roads directly east and west of Montague Street.

Race Registration
Click here to register online. The printed application and a fee of $25 ($10 for the Children’s Fun Run) are due by Monday, October 17; online registration can occur as late as October 27 at 8 p.m.. Late or race day applications for the 5K have a fee of $30.
Packet Pick-Up
Packet pickup is scheduled for Friday, October 28, from 5-8 p.m. at the Westchase Swim and Tennis Center, located on Countryway Boulevard just south of Linebaugh Avenue (10405 Countryway Blvd. Tampa, FL 33626). Please note that packet pick-up takes place in a different location than the race:

Awards will be given for first, second and third place finishes overall; for both male and female Masters; and for both male and female runners finishing first, second and third place in standard five-year age groups up to 75+. All runners in the 5K race will be entered into a raffle for great prizes, including great prizes, gift certificates and more!

Race Day Contact Information
We're sorry, but on the morning of the race, staff will not be able to answer the above numbers, which ring in their offices. Staff, however, will be available at the race site by 5:30 a.m. to address all questions.
Most of our race day questions involve whether runners can still register on the morning of the race. The answer is yes! Runners can still register the morning of the race at the starting point of the race. Simply arrive no later than 7:20 a.m. Runners who are unable to make the scheduled packet pick-up may also pick up their packets on the morning of the race. Please arrive no later than 7:20 a.m. to avoid the rush. We're sorry, but if you miss the race due to health or bad weather, we are unable to mail your T-shirt and/or race packets.

Those who cannot pick-up their packet at the scheduled time may pick up the packet on the morning of the race, but these runners should arrive at the registration table no later than 7:20 a.m. to avoid the rush.

We're sorry, but if you are unable to attend the race, race organizers will be unable to mail your T-shirt and packet.
Restrictions
We're sorry, but for the safety of all runners, no pets, skateboards, inline or roller skates or jogging strollers will be permitted to participate.
Walkers with strollers are asked to participate at the rear of the event.
The Great West Chase
The Great West Chase is a USATF/RRTC nationally certified 5K Run/Walk (Certification Code FL-02037DL) organized by the World of Westchase to benefit literacy programs at Just Elementary School. All runners of the 5K race will receive a quality tech race T-shirt, a great goodie bag and a commemorative 10th anniversary Great West Chase medal. All runners will also be entered into a raffle for great prizes!
Last Minute Race Registration
While online race registration is no longer possible after Oct. 27, runners can still register at the race packet pick-up site on Friday, Oct. 28 from 5-8 p.m. at the Westchase Swim and Tennis Center, located on Countryway Boulevard just south of Linebaugh Avenue (10405 Countryway Blvd. Tampa, FL 33626). Please note that packet pick-up takes place in a different location than the race. Runners can also register at the starting line on the morning of the race but are encouraged to arrive no later than 7:15 a.m. to avoid the last minute rush. Date
The race is held annually on the last Saturday in October. This year the race will be held at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29; the children's fun run will start at 9 a.m.
Halloween Costumes
While certainly not manatory, this year’s 5K participants are encouraged to come out in Halloween costume for some added fun. All runners in costume will be entered into a contest for great prizes.

Homeowners who return polls bind their VMs to vote their homes' votes as indicated by the polls. VMs may cast the votes of homeowners who do not return their polls at the VMs' discretion. For the adoption of CCRs amendments, VMs cast as many votes as there are homes in their neighborhoods. All proposed CCRs amendments must receive an affirmative vote of 75 percent of Westchase homes to be adopted.

Westchase residents were sent polls in September requesting their input on the proposed Bylaws changes. To be approved, VMs representing at least 66 percent of Westchase homes must indicate their approval of the Bylaws amendments. When voting on changes to the Bylaws, VMs cast a single vote each and are not bound by their homeowners' responses to polls.

Submissions & Writer’s Guidelines
WOW Submissions and Writers’ Guidelines
Thanks for considering a submission to World of Westchase! The support of residents and business columnists alike help keep WOW the best community magazine in the nation. As you prepare to make your submission to WOW, there are some helpful hints that will help make the process run more smoothly.
In preparing to make a submission, it is important to remember that because WOW has a finite amount of space every month, we can never guarantee that a submission will be run. We nevertheless give neighborhood news the highest priority. WOW also reserves the right to edit all submissions for clarity, grammar, content and length. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, the magazine’s staff cannot contact a submitter about any changes made to any article prior to publication. We greatly appreciate your understanding our limitations and constraints.
Further, while WOW accepts businesses' press releases and newsworthy columns written by professionals, WOW does not engage in “pay-for-play” publication of advertorials. The purchase of advertising within the magazine will not win favorable treatment for editorial submissions nor guarantee publication of a business or group’s press releases or professional columns. With the exception of general press releases for charitable events, it is also WOW's general practice to decline to run articles offered concurrently to other local publications. WOW's readership is accustomed to seeing first-run, original articles rather than articles they can find elsewhere in other publications.
News Articles and Essays
WOW welcomes news articles and essays on various topics submitted by residents. WOW, however, does not currently compensate writers of articles or essays that have not been specifically requested or assigned by the editor. We nevertheless love to hear about neighborhood events and gatherings and the personal accomplishments of family members and neighbors! The ideal way of submitting your article is to type it in Microsoft Word and e-mail it as an attachment to Editor@WestchaseWOW.com. You can also simply cut and paste your article into the body of your e-mail.
In general, most articles are written in the third person and should avoid use of the pronouns I, we and you. Instead, write up the article as if you were an outside observer of all the fun.
Most WOW pages are half pages. Without photos, they can fit approximately 350 words with a photo. Because space is at a premium in the magazine, contact the editor at 920-9809 to discuss any article that exceeds the half page word/photo limit.
Finally, always remember that a reader is brought into a story by a good photo. Whenever a story can be accompanied by a photo, be sure to submit one.
Photos
The easiest way for photo to be submitted to the magazine is by sending a high-resolution digital copies via e-mail. Never send a photo that has been cut and pasted into a Word document or e-mail already. Its resolution will be too low to reproduce in the hardcopy magazine.
Instead, send high resolution JPEGs to Editor@WestchaseWOW.com by attaching them to your e-mail. Generally, photos that are smaller in memory size than 1 MB will not reproduce well (To determine the memory size of your photo, right click on the file in Windows Explorer and select Properties.)
Send a few more photos than you would like included; doing so allows the magazine staff to pick those that will reproduce best in the magazine. While some darker photos can be lightened a bit, avoid sending any photo that is excessively dark, is at all blurry, is remarkably off center or has its subjects cut-off. If you have more than 10 photos you would like to send, it generally is better to burn a CD of them and drop it, sealed in a plastic bag, in one of the black WOW drop boxes at the swim and tennis centers.
Include captions of all photos at the end of the article. Precede the caption with the actually name of photo file (JPEG).
With the exception of Pet of the Month, WOW generally does not run photos that are not accompanied by an explanatory article, however brief.
Professional Columns and Business Press Releases
WOW currently runs a number of different professional columns depending upon available space. While professionals are welcome to submit such columns for consideration, WOW does not guarantee that they will be run. It is therefore advisable to first explore with the editor WOW's level of interest in the potential piece before its writing and submission. Columns should be newsworthy and not promotional, particularly with regard to the columnist’s own business or products. They should run 350 words in length and should be accompanied by a good resolution photograph (head shot) of the writer of at least 1 MB. An editor’s note generally follows the piece and identifies the writer, his/her business name and relevant certifications and/or licensure. Column length should take the length of the editor’s note into consideration. Given the popularity of the magazine, the number of its monthly contributors and space constraints, WOW can never guarantee publication of any submitted piece. Further, some professional columns run monthly; others run as space allows.
While general press releases about a company are also accepted for consideration, business owners are advised that such releases are very rarely run due to space limitations. WOW does, however, give greater weight to stories about local businesses engaged in charitable work that solely benefits Westchase charities and schools. Due to the number of press releases WOW receives, however, staff generally does not e-mail confirmation of their receipt.
WOW also does not engage in “pay-for-play” publication of advertorials. The purchase of advertising within the magazine will not win favorable treatment for editorial submissions nor guarantee publication of a business or group’s press releases or professional columns.

WOW Seeks Applicants for 2012 WOW Scholarships
Have you proven yourself a scholar with a dedication to community service? If so, there’s a college scholarship you should know about.
World of Westchase is seeking applicants for its college scholarship program for students whose high school career reflects a commitment to both academics and community service. The WOW Scholars program is open to Westchase residents who are high school seniors (or home-schooled students) and who will attend their first year of college in 2012. Click here for the application.
Since the inception of the program in 2006, the WOW Scholars program has awarded 33 scholarships, ranging from $1,000 to $1,500, to Westchase college-bound students.
Interested applicants must fill out an application, which can be downloaded by logging onto www.WestchaseWOW.com and clicking on the link for WOW Scholars, located at the very bottom of the homepage after WOW Info. The completed application and supporting materials must be postmarked by March 1, 2012.
Supporting materials for the application include certified copies of the student’s high school transcript; official SAT and/or ACT score reports; two character reference letters, one of which must attest to community service; and a personal essay including information about the student’s community service, academic achievements, other achievements, personal goals, and any other information or factors, including need, that the student believes bears on why he or she should receive a scholarship.

Many activities published on this Web site are open to the public, but some may be restricted to Westchase residents or homeowners only, as defined here.
