This month, WOW dips back into some
older submissions to the WOW in the World
contest to visit southern and northern Europe.
Both great photos were submitted last summer and
were misfiled by the editor (he begs
forgiveness). The WOW in the World file,
however, is growing dangerously thin, so be sure
to submit your photos of your summer trips in
the coming months, Westchasers!
Our first photo was submitted by Radcliffe
resident Angela Bocchino. Angela visited the
Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy last July.
Angela, an eighth grader at Davidsen Middle
School, traveled to Europe as a People to People
Student Ambassador. The Leaning Tower is
actually a freestanding bell tower of the
adjacent Pisa cathedral. Begun in 1173 and
completed 177 years later, the tower began
leaning in 1178 with the construction of its
third floor due to unstable subsoil.
Our second photo was submitted by Madeline
Indelicato of Harbor Links, who forced her poor
husband Nando to take photos of her holding the
WOW throughout their travels in northern and
eastern Europe. In this photo, Madeline is
standing in front of Uspenski Orthodox Church in
Helsinki, Finland. The brick church was
completed in the 1860s when Finland was an
autonomous Grand Duchy in the Russian Empire.
Topped with spikes and 13 onion domes with
crosses, it is Northern Europe’s largest Russian
Orthodox church.
Angela and Madeline split the $100 WOW in the
World pot (Madeline, please take Nando to
dinner).
Join in the fun with our WOW in the World Contest!
Simply submit a high resolution photo of the WOW
held by someone (or your family) in a fun and different
place outside of Florida and you can win up to $100 if
it’s printed! (Of course, if you just want to send or
carry the cover of the magazine, we won’t tell!).
We’ll publish one or two photos monthly. Payments
will be determined based on how recognizable or exotic
the location or landmark photographed with the WOW
is. While WOW in the middle of an Iowa cornfield
might snag you $20, WOW at the Kremlin, the Great
Wall of China, the Sydney Opera House or the Sphynx of
Giza could win you Ben Franklin!
Of course, faked photographs will be disqualified! E-mail your high
resolution (300 dpi or 1 MB or over) entries by the fifteenth of the
month to
Editor@WestchaseWOW.com. Have fun and get the kids involved!
