Seniors in Hillsborough County High Schools may now submit their application for the 2020-2021 Scholarship Awards.
The NOPE, Narcotics Overdose Prevention and Education, Task Force was founded in Palm Beach County, Florida in 2004. It brought together community leaders and concerned families working diligently to save the lives of those affected by substance abuse. The Hillsborough Chapter was established in 2011. Every year, NOPE Hillsborough delivers high impact presentations to middle and high school students that drive home the consequences of drug consumption. Their network of members presents purposefully blunt and emotional messages to the county’s 100+ schools. These presentations made by family members who have experience their own loss due to substance abuse, resonate with students, and many students have sought guidance for themselves or for their friends after attending a presentation.
Every year, NOPE of Hillsborough offers a number of scholarships in conjunction with The DeBartolo Family Foundation, The Michael Valdes Foundation, Hillsborough County Anti-Drug Alliance (in memory of Dan Grant) and one in memory of Jamie Godette Church, for a total of 13 scholarships of $1,000 each. These scholarship funds are to be used for college, university, or technical trade school and should be applied to extended higher learning expenses.
Any Hillsborough County High School Senior who has experienced a NOPE Presentation within the last four years is eligible to apply. The entire presentation is now available on the NOPE website at https://nopehillsborough.org/experience-nope/ for those that have never experienced a NOPE student presentation in person and for those that need to refresh their memories on the main three points covered.
In addition to experiencing a NOPE Student Presentation, the student must have been accepted into a college, university, or a technical/trade institute or be waiting for entrance into one of the aforementioned institutions.
