Replacement Fire Station Will Expand Hillsborough County’s Reach and Shorten Response Times

By Chris Wilkerson, Senior Media Relations Strategist

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue is replacing fire station 13 near Gunn Highway in Citrus Park to improve response times for residents and create a safer work environment for firefighters.

The County will acquire parcels of land to replace Fire Station 13 near Gunn Highway using money from the American Rescue Plan. The current Station 13 is more than 50 years old and functionally obsolete.

The new station will be located less than a half mile away at Ehrlich Road and Basswood Avenue. The new Station 13 will be a three-bay station accommodating more vehicles, increasing coverage while reducing response times. The station is planned to be complete in 2026.

These property acquisitions will allow replacement Fire Station 13 to be built to modern standards, providing adequate room for fire trucks to enter and exit the station in a safe, time-sensitive way and ensure optimal health and safety measures for the firefighters.

Public Engagement Opportunity

The County will conduct a virtual engagement using the Hillsborough Engagement & Education Hub to collect feedback from the public on the proposed fire station. Comment for this project is open until Friday, April 7, 2023. Visit HCFLGov.net/HCEngage to participate.
