Sales Tax Holidays
Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holidays will run from May 27 through June 9 and again from Aug. 26 to Sept. 8. During those periods, household goods including pet food, household cleaners and batteries will be exempt from sales tax, as well as items like flashlights, trash bags and generators. Back-to-School Sales Tax Holidays will take place July 24 to August 6, 2023 and January 1 to January 14, 2024. This covers everything from learning aids to clothing to computers. Get the complete list here.
The Freedom Summer Sales Tax Holiday lasts from Memorial Day through Labor Day of this year and covers music events, sporting events, cultural events, state park annual passes, and fitness facilities, as well as certain boating and water activity supplies, camping supplies, fishing supplies, general outdoor supplies, residential pool supplies, children’s athletic equipment, and children’s toys exempt from sales tax. Energy Star Appliance Sales Tax Holiday runs July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024. Consumers can purchase qualifying ENERGY STAR® appliances exempt from tax during this tax holiday. Find a complete list here.
Gas Ranges and Cooktops Sales Tax Holiday runs July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024. Consumers can purchase qualifying gas ranges and cooktops exempt from tax during this tax holiday.
Home Hardening Sales Tax Holiday. This tax holiday, which kicked off in June of 2022, continues through June 30, 2024, and covers impact-resistant doors, windows and garage doors.
Permanent tax exemptions
Recently added permanent sales tax exemptions are intended to cover baby and toddler needs such as cribs, playpens, strollers, child safety products, diapers, baby wipes, bottles, and clothing and shoes for children under age 5. Other items permanently exempt from sales tax will include oral hygiene products like toothbrushes and toothpaste and firearm safety devices.
